What does a text diff show?+

It compares two versions of text and marks which lines were added, removed or left unchanged — the same idea as a git diff, but for any text.

Does it compare word by word?+

The comparison is line-based, which is the clearest view for code, config and documents. A changed line shows as one removed line plus one added line.
